Raymond "Jim" Cain, age 76 of rural St. Peter, died Friday, November 21, 2008 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at the Church of St. Peter with Fr. Phil Schotzko officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in St. Peter. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday at the Church of St. Peter with a 6:00 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Church of St. Peter Building Fund. St. Peter Funeral Home-Klein Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Jim was born on September 22, 1932 to Claude and Emma (Noethe) Cain Sr.in Sutherland, IA. He attended country school by bicycle or walking. He graduated from Hartley High School in Hartley, IA. In 1950 he moved to Mapleton where he farmed with his dad and brother Jr. and also did custom work. He served his country in the United States Army from 1955-1957. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Ulmen in 1957 at Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. Together they raised six children. They moved to St. Peter in 1968 where they farmed, raised pigs and dairy. Jim retired from farming in 1991.
He was a member of the Church of St. Peter, the Knights of Columbus, and the Farmer's Union. He enjoyed square dancing, old time dancing, playing Pfeffer with his neighbors and the Sr. Citizens Pfeffer Club. He loved old western movies and his favorite television shows were Two and a Half Men and Everybody Loves Raymond. Jim also enjoyed John Deere tractors and Irish music.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Cain of rural St. Peter; children, Suzanne Detlefsen of Minneapolis, Lynn (Rich) Greenslit of Farmington, Lori (Bill) Hamlin of Deerwood, Sheila Cain of Ely, Brian (Michelle) Cain of Apache Junction, AZ, and Donna (Mike) Eichers of Mankato; grandchildren, Matt and Scott Greeenslit, Nick, Josh and Nathan (fianc" Stephanie) Hamlin, Cassandra Cain Berg, Celestte, Elise and Jacob Eichers; great-grandchild, Gabriella Hamlin; siblings, Delores "Trixie" Schaneman of Fort Collins, CO, Betty McCormack of Duluth, Francis Cain of Wells, and LeeRoy Cain of Waseca; sisters-in-law, Joyce Cain of Dickens, IA, Mavis Cain of Wells, and Marlene Cain of Waseca; brother-in-law, Carl Struve of Sheldon, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marion Struve; brothers, Ronnie Cain, and Claude Cain Jr.
