Selma Esther (Olson) Thun was called home to her Lord on December 25, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. Her faith in God was her strength for 93 years.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Peter with Pastor Rauh officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, St. Peter. Visitation will be held at 9:00 am on Tuesday and continue until the start of the service. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Selma was born on April 18, 1915 in Parkers Prairie MN to Emil and Randena Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at Elmo Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. She graduated from Parkers Prairie High School and Wadena Teacher's Training College. She taught country school in rural Parkers Prairie.
She married Walter Thun on November 3, 1935 in Parkers Prairie. In 1948 they moved to Northfield MN and later to St. Peter in 1960. Selma was a homemaker and took great pride in raising her 8 children; 5 boys and 3 girls. Selma enjoyed life to its fullest. Everything she did revolved around her family; from baking and gardening, to quilt making. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, cryptograms and especially playing bingo with family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her
She is survived by her children: Jerry (Carol) of Colorado, JoAnne Perkins of Minneapolis, Steve (Kathy) of St. Peter, Jane (Rick) Biehn of St. Peter and Barb (Mike) Oliver of Mankato; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; one sister, Orrel Kalpin of Battle Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Walter in 1999; and 3 sons: Jack in 1973, Jim in 2004 and Jerrol in 2008; on son-in-law, Lloyd in 2004 and 6 sisters.
