Dorothy M. Barklow, age 92 of Kasota, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Kasota Presbyterian Church with Rev. Arne Jessen officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date at Kasota Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Kasota Presbyterian Church. St. Peter Funeral Home-Klein Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Dorothy was born on February 22, 1916 to Henry and Augusta (Hupke) Miller in Ocheyedan, Iowa. As a young child her family moved to Mountain Lake, MN and she graduated from Mountain Lake High School in 1933. Dorothy went on to attend Teachers College in Windom where she graduated in 1934. In 1935 she married John Barklow and they raised four children. In the early 1940's, the family moved to Kasota. She was a substitute teacher for a couple of years before she started working for the U.S. Postal Service where she worked 24 years until her retirement in 1976. She was a member of Kasota Presbyterian Church, The Ladies Society, Senior Citizens Group, NARFE and the Eastern Star. Her hobbies included spending time with her family, playing piano, crossword puzzles, cryptoquotes, crocheting and knitting.
She is survived by her children, Bruce (Marilyn) Barklow of Madison Lake, Barbara (Stan) Hanson of Kasota, Marleen (Paul) Maas of Madison Lake, and Patricia (Darell) Gerber of Kasota; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; and one brother.
