James Frederick Volk, age 67 of Kasota, died Friday, February 6, 2009 at his home in Kasota.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Charles Degner officiating. Burial will be in Kasota Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Monday at St. Peter Funeral Home-Klein Chapel and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Jim was born on July 29, 1941 in Nicollet to Reinhard and Eunice (Roberts) Volk. He grew up in Nicollet and graduated from Nicollet High School in 1959. He then went on to work at the Nicollet Creamery. On January 22, 1966 he was united in marriage to Sandra Flowers. The couple then moved to Kasota. Jim worked for St. Peter Well Drilling until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Kasota Fire Department, where he served as the Department Chief for eight years. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, auto racing and the television show Gunsmoke.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra of Kasota; children, Douglas Volk of Kasota, and Sheila Volk of Kasota; brothers, Jerald "Pete" (Diane) Volk of Nicollet, Roger (Vicki) Volk of New Ulm; twin sister, Janice Wagner of Nicollet; mother-in-law, Clara Flowers of St. Peter; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Ed Flowers; brothers-in-law, Dick Wagner, and Arno Flowers.
