James F. White, age 86 of St. Peter, passed away on June 4, 2009 at the Benedictine Living community in St. Peter.

Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 8, 2009 at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter, with Fr. Harry Biehan officiating. Burial will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 5:00 " 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church with a 6:00 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jim was born January 9, 1923 to Roy and Birdie (O'Grady) White in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was united in marriage to Rosemary Kemen at Great Lakes Catholic Chapel on March 23, 1949. They celebrated 60 years of marriage on March 23, 2009. Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy for 20 active years and 10 years in the Fleet Reserve. Jim is a Pearl Harbor survivor who was at Pearl Harbor aboard the USS Argonne during the Japanese bombing attack on December 7, 1941. Two days after the attack Jim was one of the divers to bring up a Japanese plane that had been shot down. He continued as a Navy diver throughout WWII. He served aboard destroyers, carriers, cruisers, and finished his 20 year active career aboard the USS Fulton, a sub tender. Jim and family also had several tours of shore duty, spending time in the Mariana Islands, Hawaiian Islands, and several Navy ports in the U.S.

After retiring from the Navy, Jim worked for Westinghouse in the corporate offices on Wall Street in New York City. He remained there for 10 years, and then he and his family came to Minnesota where Jim started enjoying fishing and hunting. He was an avid reader and enjoyed his time at family gatherings in their home.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary of St. Peter; four daughters, Kathryn (Stanley) Marshall of Branchburg, New Jersey; Suzanne Schultz of Minneapolis; Cynthia Albrecht of St. Peter; and Barbara (Jeff) Kubat of Grand Rapids; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
