Donald Ross Lloyd, age 66, of Cleveland, MN, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Benedictine Living Community, St. Peter MN. Visitation will be Sunday, June 14, from 1:00-3:00pm at the Cleveland Church of Christ. The funeral service will be at 3:30pm Sunday at the church. Interment will be at the Elim Welsh Cemetery, Sharon Township, Le Sueur County MN. St. Peter Funeral Home-Klein Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Don was born November 24, 1942 in St. Peter MN to David H & Beatrice (Rollings) Lloyd. Don was a 1960 Cleveland High School graduate. He graduated from Minnesota Bible College (i.e., Crossroads College) in Rochester MN with a BA. He received his Masters of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry at Bethel Seminary in St. Paul MN. He also attended Harvard Divinity School in Boston MA.
Don married Lois Ann Giersdorf on August 26, 1967 at the Cleveland Church of Christ. Their son Mark was born December 3, 1968. Don, with Lois & Mark, farmed 3 miles north of Cleveland for 10 years at which point he returned to finish his undergraduate degree at Minnesota Bible College (i.e., Crossroads College). That time at MBC set the course of the rest of his life as his passion became that of serving the Lord Jesus.
Don ministered at the Horicon Church of Christ, rural Truman MN. He served Minnesota Bible College (i.e., Crossroads College) Rochester MN where he taught New Testament Greek and served as the college's president. Don & Lois established an independent "Leadership Ministries" with its purpose to minister to small churches in the upper midwest. Don also worked for Saint Mary's University"Rochester MN.
Don's interests included teaching Bible classes, the Greek language, demographics, the computer, emailing friends, singing, having coffee with friends, interacting with college students and with children. He was known for his sense of humor.
Don's survivors include his wife Lois of Cleveland MN; son and daughter-in-law Mark & Laura Lloyd of Oconomowoc WI. Brothers, Mel (Monie) of Cleveland MN, Russ (Judy) of Cleveland MN, Norman (Kim) of Yorktown VA, and sister Betty Lloyd of Cleveland MN. In-laws, Carole Lloyd of Lansing MI, Norma Jean & Alern Bendix Jr of New Ulm MN, Linda & Randy Mammenga of Joseph OR, Gary & Myra Giersdorf of Longmont CO, Gregg (JoLene) Giersdorf of Mankato MN, Jim & Cindy Giersdorf of Limon CO, and Randy Giersdorf of Greeley CO.
Don was preceded in death by his parents David H & Beatrice Lloyd, parents-in-law Lloyd & Alice Giersdorf, brother Curtis Lloyd, sister and her husband Ruth & Victor VanLeer, and sister-in-law Veronica Giersdorf.
