William Joseph Frawley, age 71 of St. Peter, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Grandview Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. Peter.
Sharing of memories and visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, August 15, 2009 at St. Peter Funeral Home " Klein Chapel. Bill has chosen to donate his body to the University of Minnesota for research and educational opportunities. Memorials may be given to any local amateur sports organizations in memory of Bill.
Bill was born on January 9, 1938 to Charles A. and Charlotte (Fiedler) Frawley in St. Peter, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at the Church of St. Peter. Bill graduated from St. Peter High and attended Mankato State. He was a flagman for Komatz Construction, owned and operated a bar in Kasota. Bill was a night clerk at the Nicollet Hotel for many years, he sold sports cards and memorabilia, and wrote sports columns for the Free Press and the St. Peter Herald.
Bill was an avid sports fan and a big supporter of St. Peter amateur sports. He was an umpire and coached girls' softball, as well as assisting with sports at St. Peter High and Gustavus College. Bill was a big fan of the University of Minnesota sports teams, enjoyed collecting sports cards and most of all, enjoyed his time with his nieces and nephews.
Bill is survived by his four siblings: Marilyn Bresnahan of St. Peter; Charles (Joyce) Frawley of Red Wing; Tim (Elizabeth) Frawley of Bullard,TX; Charlotte (Lawrence Poole) Bennett of St. Peter; special friend and nephew, Matthew Bennett; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved pet cat, Lucky Lady.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, William Stotz, two brother-in-laws, John Bresnahan; Michael Bennett and several nieces and nephews.
