Arnold Waldron, age 79, died on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at his residence on Lake Washington.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, September 25, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Minnesota, with private burial services at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Following the service, friends are invited to join the family at Whiskey River.
Arnie was born in Pine Island, Minnesota on August 13, 1930 to Elsie and Arnold Waldron. He graduated from Pine Island High School in 1948 and continued his education at Winona State University until 1952 when he was appointed to attend West Point Academy in New York. He served at West Point as a military policeman until 1954 and then returned to Winona where he completed his bachelor of arts degree in 1956. Arnie was an accomplished athlete and played basketball, football and baseball.
Arnie joined the Minnesota State Patrol in 1957 where he served the Mankato District for nine years. He was promoted to sergeant in 1966 and returned to Winona. In 1973, he was promoted to major and moved back to St. Peter. He retired from the patrol in 1988.
Arnie enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking, watching all sports but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Arnie is survived by his wife, Dee; daughter, Kelly, North Mankato; daughter, Jodi (Scott) Ponwith, of Sioux Falls; and son Todd (Michelle) of St. Peter. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Bradford, Samantha, Whitney, Sarah, Lexy and TJ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard Waldron and a sister, Bette Sward.
The family requests no flowers and if you choose to leave a memorial the proceeds will be given to Winona State University in Arnie's honor.
