Elaine Vaughan Skramstad, age 83 of St. Peter, died, Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Union Presbyterian Church in St. Peter with Rev. Steven Boots officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, St. Peter. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at St. Peter Funeral Home-Klein Chapel and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Elaine was born on December 29, 1925 in Judson Township, Blue Earth County to David and Margaret (Jones) Dackins. She grew up in the Nicollet and Lake Crystal areas and graduated from Lake Crystal High School. She was united in marriage to Burton Skramstad on November 16, 1949 at Jerusalem Presbyterian Church in Judson. The couple farmed west of Norseland before moving to St. Peter in 1954. Elaine was a custodian at Gustavus Adolphus College in the Uhler Dormitory until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of Union Presbyterian Church and also volunteered at the Third Street Seconds Thrift Store. She enjoyed listening to music as well as playing the piano.
She is survived by her children, David John Skramstad and significant other, Margaret Jean "MJ" Hanson of St. Peter, and Gail Margaret Thorson, and husband Eugene of rural St. Peter; grandchildren, April (Ben) Ahlman of Morristown, and Gregory (Shannon) Thorson of Hesperia, CA; great-grandson, Luke Benjamin Ahlman; sisters, Dorothy Duffey of Lake Crystal, Elizabeth Riewe of Lake Crystal, and Marian (Harold "Frosty") Thomas of Hanska; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Burton in 1987.
