Sherry Jean Fahning, beloved daughter, sister, and aunt, age 67 of Belle Plaine and formerly of Cleveland, died unexpectedly Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Peter, with burial at Greenhill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Wednesday at St. Peter Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Sherry was born on October 16, 1942 in St. Peter to Carl and Lorraine (Krenik) Fahning. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran in St. Peter, where she was a lifelong member. She attended the Cleveland School for several years as well as the Little Red School house in Mankato. She then attended Washington School until age 21.
Sherry's strong faith in God, loving family and supportive friends helped her through her life's challenges. Sherry had a smile for everyone and loved sharing family memories and stories of growing up.
Sherry worked at MRCI in Mankato for a few years before moving into the Hope Residence in Belle Plaine in 1982. While there, she worked at New Options. She also was a multiple winner of a Christmas card design contest. She competed in Special Olympics, belonged to an Alzheimer's support group as well as having befriended and ministered to many at the nursing home. Sherry was a very loyal Twins fan. She enjoyed writing, playing keyboard, doing arts and crafts, playing games and especially loved to be with family.
Sherry is survived by her mother, Lorraine of North Mankato; siblings: Janean Johnston of Arlington VA, Lyle (Jane) of Prior Lake, Linnea (George) Komaridis of Madison Lake and Bruce (Mary) of Cleveland; 12 nieces and nephews; 12 grand nieces and nephews and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl.
