Althea Margaret Leonard

June 3, 1964 — March 22, 2022

Althea Margaret (Lyman) Leonard, age 57, passed peacefully in her home of natural causes in St Peter, Minnesota on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.

Althea was born on June 3, 1964, in Ventura, California to Roger and Joan (Glover) Lyman. She has one sister, Mary Smiley. Althea spent her childhood in California, Texas and Florida before moving back to California in 1980, where she did she due diligence raising hell as California Girls until starting a family of her own.

She married Tom Leonard in 1989 and together they had three children: Andrea (Andi), Scott, and Abbey Leonard. They moved to Minnesota in 1995. After the tornado hit the town of St. Peter, Minnesota in 1998, Althea stepped up to help her new community by running the bookmobile. It was a volunteer position that she was excited to have in her new community. She loved books and was passionate about making sure people had easy access to the joy of reading. From there she became the librarian at St. Peter High School where she continued to touch the lives of students and faculty alike.

Her next chapter in life as a certified peer specialist at the Power Up Clubhouse allowed her to be a strong advocate for mental health. The Clubhouse, which was one of her passions, is a safe and informal spot where those with mental illness can gather and grow hobbies and friendships.

Althea's friends were family too and she loved to spend her days driving her truck around the area, pink kayak sticking out of the back, visiting, spreading love and encouragement, and always ready for the next adventure.

Her smile, daily messages, constant love and encouragement are missed by all who knew her.
