Betty was born December 8, 1934 in New Ulm to Harry and Nellie (Martin) Kraus. She grew up in New Ulm and was blessed with many cousins on both sides of her family. Her brother Kenneth completed their family. In her late teens, she met a young man from St. Peter, and was quite smitten with him. In April of 1954, she married that man: Robert Maas. They moved to St. Peter and made many friends. She was a stay at home mom until her third child was born, when she began to work at the Holiday House Supper Club. She spent the 1960's working in manufacturing and a fourth child was born. She finished her working life in food service at the St. Peter High School and then St. Peter Regional Treatment Center until retiring at 70.

Robert and Betty purchased a cabin on Lake Washington that they later moved to Lake Jefferson, where they enjoyed the lake life for more than 30 years. During these years they also traveled around the USA and Europe. They and their home survived the tornado in St. Peter.

In retirement, she enjoyed coffee with friends, visiting at the American Legion and being independent; living on her own until this past November. She was always on the lookout for a BINGO game. Pfeffer at the Legion always made her day.

Betty is survived by her children: Steven (Teresa), Tamarra (Scott) Oachs, Emma (Doug) Voit, and Michael (Shelly); grandchildren: Allison (Kyle) MacArthur, Tom (Amanda) Maas, Jason (Jennifer) Ceminsky, Robert (Danielle) Ceminsky, Mary (Jay) Berg, Amber (Scott) Myhra, Ashley (Tyler Mundt) Maas, Andrew Maas, and Autumn (Sean Barthel) Maas; step-grandchildren: Chad Oachs, and Angie (Tim) Meyer; great-grandchildren: Jack, Henry and William Maas, Maddie(Evan Zhou) Ceminsky, Olivia Ceminsky, Jada, Jonny, and Jesse Ceminsky, Brooklyn and Blake Berg, Loey and Hailey Myhra, Clementine and Henry Mundt, step-great-grandchildren Corbin and Ajay Oachs.
