Celebration of Jim’s life will be held from 4-7pm, Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at the St. Peter Funeral Home. Please share a memory of Jim with his family at www.saintpeterfuneralhome.com
Jim was born October 28, 1970 in Mankato to Clinton and Kathleen Elizabeth (Trimbo) Peters. He and his ten siblings were raised in St. Peter and enjoyed spending time at their family cabin in Alexandria. It was during his junior year of high school when he started dating his love, Julie. They were married five years later on April 24, 1993. After graduation, the couple lived in Waseca and Janesville before making their home in St. Peter in July 2016. Jim worked as a security counselor at the Minnesota Security Hospital for nearly 20 years.
In October 2010, Jim and Julie traveled to China to adopt their dearly loved, only child, Elijah James Peters. Jim enjoyed being a father to Eli and included him in many things early on, from teaching him how to change a license plate on a vehicle to the proper way to dice an onion for hotdish. He was so proud of his son.
In his spare time, Jim enjoyed playing games and cards with family, canoeing and camping with friends in the Boundary Waters and Minnesota State Parks, watching football, reading, cooking, driving around on his scooters, and spending time with his pups. His favorite place was in front of a campfire.
Jim is survived by his wife, Julie Peters; son, Eli Peters; siblings, Becky (Chuck) Homer, Debbie (Rick) Johnson-Zuti, Mark (Sandy) Peters, Pam Tollefson, Paul (Vicky Seely) Peters, John Peters, Ray Peters, David (Denise) Peters, Lisa (Bob) Schultz, and Bob (Kelsie) Peters; brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Bekki Ziemer, Dan (Catie) Schwarze, Mark (Joyce Anderson) Schwarze, Duane (Annette) Hand, and Colette (Steve) Dragt; parents-in-law, Loren and Linda Schwarze; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Kathleen Peters; sister-in-law, Dee Peters; and nieces, Lora Johnson and Sara Johnson.
