Darwin Doyle Gunderson, age 76, passed away on July 12th, 2023, at Methodist Hospital, Rochester after a 2 year battle with cancer. Darwin was born on January 30th, 1947 in St. Peter, Mn. to Irvin and Cora (Tungsvik) Gunderson. He graduated from St. Peter High School in 1965 and attended 2 years at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus. Darwin was united in marriage to Brenda Anton on October 16th , 1971 at St, Mary's Church in New Ulm. He farmed for many years in the Norseland area and worked from 1995 to 2012 for the DeBlieck family of St. Peter, most of those years as operations manager of the St. Peter Rental Center. He and Brenda raised four boys.
He was very active in Norseland Lutheran Church serving in many capacities, 4-H, FFA, Farm Bureau, Nicollet County Pork Producers, Lake Prairie Township, and Republican Party. His favorite pastimes were listening to music and visiting.
Darwin is survived by the love of his life Brenda, sons; David (Annette), Mankato, Michael (Tamela), Cambridge, Ryan (Lisa), Blaine, and James, St. Peter. Sisters and brother; Donella (David) Pearce, Rockledge, Florida, Colleen Gunderson, Maplewood, and Lowell (Arlene) Gunderson, St. Peter. Brother and sister-in-laws; Charles (Diane) Anton, Bayville, N.J., Judith Gibbs, New Ulm, Genevieve (Tom) Harings, Excelsior, Rosemary (Gerald) Odermann, Santa Barbara, Calif., and Bernadette (David Jepson) Anton, Minneapolis. Grandchildren; Makenzie, Peighton, and Carson Gunderson, Nevin and Noah Gunderson, and Kaylon and Kyzer Gunderson. Step grandchildren; Austin Fogelman, Matt Gregor, Kristi (Seth) Anderson, Will and Hailey Heiden and five step great grandchildren.
Darwin was preceded in death by his parents Irvin and Cora Gunderson, daughter-in-law Jennifer Gunderson, grandson Parker Gunderson, father and mother in-law Leonard and Genevieve Anton.
Funeral Service will be 11:00am Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Norseland Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 3:00-7:00pm Monday as well as 10:00am Tuesday, all at the church. Memorials are preferred to Norseland Lutheran Church. To leave a condolence for the family, visit www.saintpeterfuneralhome.com.
