Dennis L. Anderson (age 69) recently of North Mankato and formerly of St. Peter died Friday, November 15th at the Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital from cancer.
Services: Tuesday: November 19, 1996; 10:30 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Peter. Burial with military honors in Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 2:00 PM. Visitation on Monday from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 PM at the Klein Funeral Home and on Tuesday one hour prior to services at the church.
Born: June 9, 1927 at the old Immanuel Hospital in Mankato to William Oscar 'Bill' and Eva Mae (Johnson) Anderson. He attended public schools at Nicollet, MN. Married Verna Frances Dahl on October 30, 1952 in New Ulm, MN.
He was stationed at Camp Robert in Bakersfield, CA; serving in the United States Army (Asiatic Pacific) during the Korean War from December 8, 1945 to September 24, 1946 when he received an honorable medical discharge due to rheumatic fever. At the age of ten, he moved from Nicollet to Hanska with his parents and brother. When he was sixteen, they moved to Scappose, Oregon for three years where he was employed by Oregon Shipbuilding Corporation, Portland, Oregon from 1942 to 1945. In 1947, the family returned to Staples, Minnesota as farmers. He then moved to St. Peter in March of 1952 where he began work as a guard at the St. Peter State Hospital (now known at the St.
Peter Regional Treatment Center) until 1963. In October of 1963 he began employment with the State of Minnesota Department of Transportation at St. Peter until his retirement in June of 1987. He enjoyed hunting, sports and auto racing. He was a member of the St. Peter America! Legion Post# 37, and the Mankato V.F.W. Post# 950.
Survived by his wife: Verna of North Mankato; son: Bruce L. and wife Ruth Ann Anderson and their children Jessica and Joshua of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter: Beverly and husband Randy S. Glaser and their children Amanda and Zachary of North Mankato, MN; and a brother: Dean Anderson of Mankato, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson: Joseph Glaser in 1984.
