Eugene "Gene" Nicholas Hager

Eugene “Gene” Nicholas Hager, age 89 of St. Peter, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2020 surrounded by family. There will be a private family burial held in Calvary Cemetery, St. Peter. The family is planning a church service in the future. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Hager was born April 28, 1930 to Clifford and Anna Hager in St. Clair, MN. Eugene graduated from Agricultural School in St. Paul, MN. He enlisted in the Korean War and received his purple heart. Eugene married Delores Johnson on October 10, 1953 at the St. Peter Catholic Church. He and Delores farmed in Traverse Township, where they raised six children. Gene was also an active Board of Directors for Land O’ Lake and MSI Insurance in Minneapolis and St. Paul for several years. He was also on the Board of Directors for the St. Peter Catholic Church. After Delores’ passing, Gene married Patricia Davis and after her passing, he married Betty Gibbs.

Gene is survived by spouse, Betty Gibbs-Hager and her family; his children, Michelle (James) Rodning of St. Peter, Vickie Hager of St. Peter, Kelly (Kent) Runkel of Redwood Falls, Sherry Ye of Monticello, and Thomas (Lori) Hager of St. Peter; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters, Patrica Pehrson of St. Peter, Virgina Borgmeier of St. Peter, and Beverly Johnson of North Mankato. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Hager; son, Richard Hager; parents, and parents-in-law, as well as his brothers and sisters.
