Herbert Poncin, age 92 of St. Peter, passed away at home, north of Nicollet, on Monday, October 7, 2024.
Funeral Service will be 11:00am Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Union Presbyterian Church, St. Peter with visitation beginning at 9:00am. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. Herb was born on January 13, 1932 to Sidney and Mildred (Hill) Poncin, he was one of four brothers. He attended country school through 8th grade and then attended Saint Peter High School, graduating in 1949. He attended the University of MN Ag school for two winters. Herb served in the United States Army, mostly as a military policeman in Korea from 1953 to 1954. In 1955, Herb began farming full time with his father. On April 19, 1958 Herb married Patricia Barnes in Saint Peter and they had three children. After Patricia's death in 1996, Herb married Louise Fitzke in 1997 and moved to the Nicollet area. Herb was a lifelong farmer. He was a lifetime member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Saint Peter. Herb was a charter member of the Nicollet County National Farmer's Organization. He served 18 years on the Nicollet County Historical Society Board and served on the New Sweden Mutual Insurance Board. Herb was a member of the Saint Peter Redmen Club, and the Gideons.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents Mildred and Sidney Poncin, his first wife Patricia, and brothers David Poncin and Charles Gary Poncin. He is survived by his wife Louise; his brother Steven (Clarice) Poncin; his children: Pamela (Dan) Langseth, John Poncin, and Pauline (Bob) Guetter; his grandchildren: Rachel (Tim) Brang, Megan (Jesse) Chaffee, Bob (Kaitlin) Guetter Jr, and Colin (Jill) Guetter. Also 6 great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, stepchildren and their families.
