Joan Carol Nimps, 92 year old resident of Kasota, MN passed away on May 19, 2021, at Pheasants Ridge Assisted Living in St. Peter, MN. Services will be held on Saturday, June 19th at the St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Peter MN. Visitation will began at 9:30 am, Mass at 11:00 am. Luncheon will follow at the church. Joan was born November 29, 1928 to the late Adam and Ida (Fleischman), Franzen.
Joan received her Nursing Degree from St. Catherine’s College St. Paul, MN. She started her career at the St. Peter State Hospital, followed by employment at area Community hospitals. She retired after twenty years as Health Coordinator for a nine County Head Start Program. Joan received the Excellence in Advocacy for Children award from Minnesota Valley Association for Early Childhood. She volunteered with the Red Cross Bloodmobile and Meal on Wheels program. She served on the Pastoral Council of the Diocese of New Ulm. She received the Bishops Medal of Service. She served as Eucharistic Minister and was a member of Parish social Concerns Committee. She taught CCD for twelve years. Her deep love for her faith guided her throughout her life. She traveled to Canada, England, Hawaii, Scotland, and numerous states with her husband Arnold and children. She had a wide range of taste in music from the Carter family to the Grateful Dead. She welcomed family & friends to share her homemade bread, wine, and root beer.
Some of the family favorite memories are, walking to the Kasota prairie smoke house, the “Nothing Chair”, When the grandchildren asked “what do I do in the nothing chair?” she replied “nothing”, visiting the Kasota Zoo, feeding the Quarry fox, kneading dough and baking cookies, relaxing in her floating chair on German Lake, and camping at state parks, just to name a few.
She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Arnold Nimps; her nine children: Laura (Allen) Windhorn; Philip Nimps; Mary (Gary) Campbell; Arnie (Lori) Nimps; Greg (Peggy) Nimps; Shawn Nimps; Lisa Hemp; Martin (Fay) Nimps; Teresa (Dale) Thisius; fourteen grandchildren: Jonas Windhorn (Barbara); Clair (Jeremy) Zimprich; Jenny (Dustin) Olsen; Nolan Nimps; Jonathan (Susan) Campbell; Aaron Campbell; Nathan (Shannon) Nimps; Chris Nimps; Michelle (Brent) Jones; Adam Nimps (Kayleigh); Kelly (Mike) Miskowiak; Jessica Lowe; Mitch Thisius; Jeff Thisius (Maureen); nine great grandchildren, sister Charlotte Blakeborough, and many nieces, and nephews.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Ida Franzen, three brothers John, Paul and Joe Franzen, and son in-law Peter Hemp. She will truly be missed.
