John J. Skillings

John Joseph Skillings, 84, passed away on October 9, 2023 at his home in St. Peter with his wife, Mary by his side.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00am Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the Catholic Church of St. Peter with visitation one hour prior. John was born October 25, 1938 to Davis and Natalie Skillings in Ghent, MN. John taught at multiple schools including John Ireland in St. Peter until he became self-employed working with collectibles (coins and sports cards). He owned several shops in Mankato, Richfield, and St. Peter. John belonged to numerous softball, bowling, pool and dart teams. He enjoyed cooking, and won several chili and soup contests. John had a passion for hunting pheasant, music, and people. He lived life to the fullest. 

John is survived by his wife of 19 years, Mary Jo; six children: John (Jane) of St. Paul, Jean (Paul) Bender of St. Paul, Julie (Scott) Leiferman of Madison Lake, Laura (Randy) Hardy of Faribault, Paul of St. Peter and Susan (Brian) McCoy of Chicago; 24 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and six siblings.
