Kenneth (Kenny) Derner, age 84, died on October 23, 2024 in hospice care at Vista Prairie North Pointe, North Mankato, MN.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 10, 2024 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Kasota Community Center. Interment will be in Kasota Hill Cemetery at a later date. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Kenneth was born on July 27, 1940 in Mankato to Raymond and Evelyn (Hoehn) Derner. Kenny was the oldest of 11 siblings. He attended John Ireland Catholic School and graduated from St. Peter High School in 1958. Kenny married Patricia Kraus and later married Linda Attenberger (Willson) on September 23, 1994. Kenny worked for many years as a heavy equipment mechanic for various construction companies before retiring in 2005. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing and working on anything mechanical. He loved model airplanes and trains and belonged to the Bald Eagles flying club. Kenny loved riding his motorcycle.
Kenny is survived by his daughter, Tricia Derner of Litchfield; step-daughter, Susan Buesgens of Henderson; step-son, Mickey Attenberger of Kasota; siblings, James (Janet) Derner of Kasota, Carol Maas of St. Peter, Gary (Betty) Derner of Mesa, AZ, Diane (Vern) Bense of Beaumont, CA, Ed (Gayle) Derner of St. Peter, Nancy (Richard) Davis of Cleveland, Gerald (Pamela) Derner of St. Peter, Joseph (JoAnn) Derner of Cleveland, and Philip Derner (Vali Eaton) of Mankato; many grandchildren and nieces and nephews; and the Kraus family, Scott, Tammy, and Jodi. He was preceded in death by wife, Linda; parents; sister, Janet; brother-in-law, Wayne Maas; and Mark Kraus.
