Margaret Elsie (Johnson) Norell

August 26, 1934 — January 19, 2021

Margaret was born on August 26, 1934 to Martin and Irene (Enter) Johnson of Granby Township, Nicollet County, Nicollet MN. The oldest of three children, she was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet. Coming from a German speaking home, Margaret learned to read and speak English when she attended her country school. She also studied at Trinity Lutheran School in Nicollet, Dr. Martin Luther Academy in New Ulm, then graduated at Nicollet Public High School in 1953.

On June 20, 1953, she married Maurice Elroy Norell, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Nicollet.  She lived out her life of service to many at their Eagle Point Farmstead. She raised her five children, then cared for all twelve of her grandchildren.  She took great joy in spending time with her family as often as she was able.

Her life revolved around faith, farm, family, friends, food, fabric and fellowship. Through many connections and relationships there have been so many memories; faithful attendance to Scandian Grove Lutheran Church and their women’s groups, teaching Sunday school, attending Bible Study Fellowship, 60 years with her card club, birthday club, home extension, and 4H. Margaret’s family enjoyed the smell of fresh baked goods as she spent hours cooking, baking, canning, and faithfully serving coffee and treats to her boys several times each day. She was devoted to sewing and quilting, often sharing her time and talents with her community. Margaret was also known for her green thumb and beautiful flowers.

In August 2019 Margaret learned she had metastatic pancreatic cancer. She was told that she had an aggressive cancer and could expect 2-4 months. She lived 17 more months with great grace and strength. On January 19, 2021 she left us to greet those awaiting her in heaven.  She will be laid to rest at Scandian Grove Lutheran Cemetery, in Norseland, on January 23, 2021.

She is survived by 5 children and spouses, 12 grandchildren and spouses and 9 great grandchildren.
