Martha Heier

Martha Heier of St. Peter, died Saturday, September 30, 2023, at River’s Edge Hospital in St. Peter, at age 91.  Martha resided at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter since, April 8, 2021, due to Parkinson’s Disease.

Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m., October 14, 2023, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, St. Peter.  Visitation will be one hour before service at church on Saturday.  Interment will be in Greenhill Cemetery, St. Peter.  St. Peter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are preferred to Jesus Care Ministry, Little Lambs and Sunday School, Audio Visual Communications, or the new 2022 Blue Hymnals all at St. Peter Lutheran Church.

Martha was born on April 22, 1932, in Eureka, SD to Andrew and Pauline (Rieger) Delzer.  Martha grew up and attended school in Ipswich, SD.  She moved to Aberdeen, SD with her sister, Gladys, and two girlfriends, where they all worked at Red Owl Grocery Store.  Martha married Donald Heier on July 26, 1953, in Aberdeen, SD.  After Donald was honorably discharged from the US Navy in August, 1954, they made their home in Akaska, SD, later moving to St. Peter, MN in July, 1968.  Martha was employed at Gustavus Adolphus College, ADC Manufacturing, and Aluma Craft Boat Factory, all in St. Peter, MN. 

Martha enjoyed cleaning, cooking, gardening, reading the Bible, and helping family, friends, and her church.  Since moving to St. Peter, Martha and family have been active members of St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in St. Peter, MN.

Family remembering Martha are her children, Duane, JoAnn, Gerald, and Mark (Brenda); grandchildren, Aaron Heier (Annette Garcia), Kendra Jones, and Anna Heier; great-grandchild, Ezra Jones; two sisters, Emma (Mike) Capra of Hudson, WI and Marie Holm Uhrich of Rapid City, SD; and eleven nieces and nephews.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Donald in November 2015; sister, Gladys Wellman in June 2023; brothers-in-law, Robert Wellman in September 2011 and Darwin Holm in May 2013; and her parents.
