Mary Lou Erickson

Mary Lou Erickson age 88, of St. Peter, MN (formerly Victoria, MN) passed away on January 16, 2022.  She is survived by her husband, Donald D. Erickson; children Debby Dodds and Carol (Jerry) Seitzer; grandchildren James (Joni) Seitzer; Erica (Brett) Boyum; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Born March 7, 1933 in St. Cloud, MN, Mary Lou was the fifth child of Horace and Mary Brown, Kimball, MN.  Her sister, Luva Wilson, and three brothers, Marvin, Donald and Robert Brown, and first husband Lloyd Robinson all predeceased her.    

Mary Lou lived a full life.  She was guided by strong faith, was a devoted wife to Donald of more than 65 years, a loving mother, grandmother, and friend.  She was a dedicated and compassionate elementary teacher for over 34 years in the Kimball & Wayzata school districts.  She received her Masters in Education, and in 1991, was named the Wayzata Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Throughout her life, Mary Lou was unafraid to take on challenges. Whether it be hiking the Superior Trail, Isle Royale or sailing Alaska’s Inside Passage; or putting together the first Sunday School at Mt. Olivet West.   She was always willing to answer the call. 

A teacher by nature, she shared her love for baking, cooking, and quilting with her daughters and grandchildren.  She will be remembered for her famous cardamom rolls, her quiet listening ears, and the strength she gave others.  

Funeral service will be led by Pastor Kurt Kalland on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Mount Olivet West.  Visitation: 12:00 Noon, Service: 1:00 pm.  Burial will be at Ostmark Lutheran Church at a later date. Memorials are preferred to Mount Olivet and Shriners Children’s Hospital.
