Maureen “Rene” McCabe, 86 of Cleveland, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Nativity, Cleveland, MN. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Scotch Lake. The St. Peter Funeral Home-Klein Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Rene was the 2nd of three children born to Erwin J. and Emma V. (Steppel) Schabert on October 22, 1932 at the home of her parents in St. Peter. She attended primary school at John Ireland and graduated from St. Peter High School in 1950. Rene attended Mankato Vocational School, graduating as a medical records clerk. Rene was united in marriage to Francis McCabe at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Peter on October 30, 1952 and together they raised a family of five. Rene retired from the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center, where she was the executive assistant to the medical director. She was active in church activities and was the organist at Nativity for 30 years. Rene had her own catering business and loved to entertain family and friends.
Rene is survived by her children, LeEllen (Ed) Hammer of Lakeville, MN, Jerome (Helen) McCabe of Le Center, MN, Mary Jo Baatz of Apple Valley, MN, Anne Hagen of Lakeville, MN, and Patrick (Randi) McCabe of Cleveland, MN; grandchildren, Joe (Nikki) Franciskovich of Los Angeles, CA, Stephanie McCabe of Oklahoma City, OK, Kevin McCabe of Cleveland, MN, and Brayden and Clare McCabe of Cleveland, MN; great-grandchildren, Avalie and Michael Franciskovich; and brother, Joe Schabert of St. Peter. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis; sons-in-law, John Baatz and Robert Hagen; and sister, Darlene Regenscheid.
