Morrie was the eldest child of Jay and Nadine Stewart. Raised in St. Peter, MN with his siblings, Karen and Tom. He was an Eagle Scout, played multiple sports, and graduated from St. Peter High School. His next few years were busy with summers in Yellowstone, enlisting in the Army, serving in Berlin, getting married, starting a family, and earning a living. His work in business provided for his family and took him many places. From Minnesota to Montana, Lake Powell to South Florida, and ultimately, he was drawn back to Minnesota with the arrival of grandkids.
The common thread through his life was his love of family, friends, and community and was most readily expressed through the gifts he gave – hosting gatherings, homemade ice cream and noodles, and time. His life was enriched by deep, long-lived friendships, and his faith. The rituals of attending service, bible study, prayer, and communion truly sustained him.
He will be remembered through many stories: summers at the Tedlock farm, trail maintenance and relocating grizzlies in Yellowstone, map surveying in Germany, and so very many cabin tales. A place central to the family and him for most of his life and embodied the spirit of hearth and home. He remained an avid card player right up to the end and will always be known as the reigning champion of the Lake Washington North Shore Pfeffer Tournament.
He will be dearly missed. A graveside memorial service with military honors will be held at 1:30pm, Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Peter, MN. Following the committal, please join the family for an ice cream remembrance at First Lutheran Church of St. Peter from 2-3pm. Details at www.saintpeterfuneralhome.com. If so moved, in lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to the Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.alz.org/get-involved-now/donate).
