Nancy Margaret (Smith) Luker, age 87, of St. Peter, died peacefully on December 13, 2024 at her home.
In keeping with Nancy's wishes, a memorial service will be held in the spring (May 9, 2025) beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Union Presbyterian Church, 730 South Third Street, in St. Peter, Minnesota. There will be a visitation beginning at 9:30am at the Church. Private graveside services will be held at Greenhill Cemetery. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Nancy was born on Mother's Day, May 9th, 1937, in Litchfield Minnesota, to William and Lillian (Bilkey) Smith. She attended elementary school through the fifth grade in Litchfield. In 1948 the family moved to St. Peter when her father bought a truck line. She graduated from the St. Peter High School in 1955.
In 1956 Nancy married James C. Luker of Waterville, Minnesota. They lived in St. Peter while James drove truck for S&K Truck line. In 1976 James and Nancy bought out her father's interest in S&K becoming sole owners.
Nancy was an active member of Union Presbyterian Church, being a member for over 71 years. She served on the church board of Session and as a Deacon; was President of the Women's Association; chaired several committee's; taught Sunday School for many years; and was a member of the choir for over 35 years, sharing her solo voice for many occasions. She volunteered for the Senior Nutrition program for several years as well as the Nicollet County Cancer Society. In 1990 she went to work at ADC in Le Sueur for over twelve years.
Her passions in life, beyond her children and grandchildren, were music, reading, fishing, collecting cookbooks and several very special friends. She loved to laugh and enjoyed life. Her family has many wonderful memories to tell about times spent together. She especially enjoyed her many trips to Hawaii, the Philippines, Alaska, and Disney World.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband James in 2008, sisters Janet Davis, and Sarah Murphy, brothers-in-law Ronald Luker, Charles Gregor, DeWayne Davis, and Larry Murphy. She is survived by her children, David (Barbara Lynn), Barbara Ann, Michael, Susan (Tom) Prax , Mark (Remy); grandchildren, Ashley (John) Roiland, Bryce (Jennifer) Prax, Jennifer (Jason) Bents, Clayton Luker, serving in the Air Force, Nancy C. Luker, and Karmy Luker; greatgranddaughters Ellie and Savannah Prax; brother Stephen (Lonna Kay) Smith; sister's- in- law Joan (Charles) Gregor and Judith (Ronald) Luker, and many nieces and nephews. Memorials preferred to Union Presbyterian Church, Hospice, Vine, or Cada House.
