Robert “Porky” Peterson Sr., age 77 of St. Peter, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020 with his wife by his side at Methodist Hospital in Rochester.
A private family memorial will be held. A public visitation will be from 1:00-3:00pm on Friday, November 27th, 2020 at St. Peter Funeral Home.
Robert was born August 21st, 1943 to Axel and Leone Peterson at home in Lake Prairie Township. He was the youngest of seven kids. He grew up in Saint Peter, MN and graduated from Saint Peter High School. Robert worked road construction and was known as the best paver operator around at Komatz, Empire Paving and SMC until he retired in 2005. During his busy summers he always made sure to make time for his family. In winter months, he kept himself busy working at Dranttel’s Sales and Service on snowmobiles with his best friend Butch. He was united in marriage to Mary Beth on December 29th, 1983 in Arizona.
In his early years, Porky was part of Jolly Rodders Car Club, the Traverse Des Sioux Snowmobiling Club which Mary, Bobby, Scot and Doug joined in on the trips in Northern Minnesota. He and Mary made the most of retirement by traveling to Arizona and Florida in the winters and also extended trips to Alaska and Yellowstone. He enjoyed snowmobiling, four wheeling, camping, and fishing. If he wasn’t doing those things or with his family, he was spending time in his garage. He had everything you could need, knew where everything was and if you took something without telling him, he knew. His trucks always had to be Ford and recreational vehicles were Yamaha.
Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Beth; children: Robert Jr. (Steve), Scot (Lisa), Doug (Christine), and Sara (Mark) Joyce; grandson: Izaiah (who was his pride and joy); siblings: Shirley, Bob, Betty, Donny (Judy); nieces and nephews; as well as other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Axel and Leone Peterson; and sisters, Audrey and Barb.
Robert will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him.
