Ronald "Ron" A. Scharpen

Ronald "Ron" Scharpen, age 84 of St. Peter, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024.

 Ronald Allen was born June 3, 1940 in Red Wing, MN to Alvin and Dorothy (Jess) Scharpen. He graduated from Red Wing HS in 1958. Ron was united in marriage to Eileen Mary Buysse on August 11, 1962 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Wing. They lived in St. Paul and Ron attended the University of MN, graduating in 1968 with his Pharmacy Degree. He returned to Red Wing working as a pharmacist from 1968-1976. They then moved to Worthington MN where he worked for and later owned the Snyder Drug Store. After selling the store, he worked as a relief pharmacist for Sterling until moving to St. Peter in 2008. He filled in at ShopKo Pharmacy in Mankato, and was a regular face at the Family Fresh Pharmacy in St. Peter until fully retiring in 2018. Through his life he was active with the Knights of Columbus, the Elks and the Lions Clubs. Ron loved his turkey and grouse hunting trips, fishing trips, volunteering at the Arboretum at Gustavus, and tending his plots at the community garden. Most importantly, he found so much joy spending time with his family and attending activities for his grandchildren. 

 Left to remember Ron are his wife, Eileen; children: Todd (Roberta), and Lisa (Todd) Westphal; grandchildren: Justin (Michelle), Jared (Ashley), Emily (Gus) Adey, Alyssa (Alec) Deschene, Ben (Elizabeth) Westphal, Noah (Rachel) Westphal, and Isaac (Kathryn Sandquist) Westphal; 5 great grandchildren; and other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Kenneth. 

 The family wishes to thank the staff at Ecumen, Ecumen Prairie Hill and Moments hospice for their care of Ron.
