Shirley Elona Petersen

Shirley Petersen passed away peacefully at the age of 95 years on April 6, 2019 in Auburn, New York.

She was born to Chris and Mabel Knudsen on January 20, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois. She met her husband, the late Reverend Joseph Petersen, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and was married in 1945. Together, they lived and worked abroad in Europe and from Coast to Coast, and committed their lives to each other, their family, and the Lutheran Church.

Shirley was a remarkable woman, known and loved for her great charisma, youthful and determined spirit, service to the community, and sense of style and grace. She taught us to find joy and humor in everyday life, to dream big and believe in ourselves, and to cherish cozy times with family and friends.

She is survived by her three children: Luanne (Harry) Batschelet, Connie Martinez, and David Petersen; her grandchildren: Nicole (Oscar) Florez, Sam (Sarah) Batschelet, Natalie (Matthew) Leopold, Joseph (Michelle) Batschelet, and Matt Batschelet; and her nine great-grandchildren: Aaron, Noah, Grace, Hannah, Emma, Logan, Savi, Toby, and Chloe.

Mom, Grandma, GG Shirley is deeply loved and will be missed by all!

A funeral service is being held at Norseland Lutheran Church in Norseland, Minnesota on Saturday, April 13th at 11:00AM. Visitation will begin at the church at 10:00AM. A luncheon will follow the service and burial.
