Winthrop "Windy" Block, age 78 of St. Peter, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Mayo Health, Mankato.
Memorial service will be 11:00am Monday, July 1, 2024 at First Lutheran Church, St. Peter. Visitation will be 3:00 - 6:00pm Sunday, June 30th at Johnson Hall at the Nicollet County Fairgrounds, with a Masonic Service at 3:00pm. Visitation will continue at 10:00am Monday at First Lutheran Church. Memorials can be directed to the American Cancer Society, or any Veteran's charity of your choice.
Winthrop was born August 26, 1945 in Mankato to John Paul and Helen Verna (Fredrickson) Block. He graduated from St. Peter High School in 1963 and then attended Mankato State, before being drafted in the US Army in November 1965. He was honorably discharged in November 1967 after serving in the Vietnam War. Windy was united in marriage to Diane Kay Voss on November 15, 1969 at Zion Church, Le Sueur. He was employed for 40 years by the City of St. Peter in the Public Works Department, retiring in 2008 as Maintenance Superintendent. Windy went on to work for Nicollet County Emergency Management from 2008 until 2017. Windy was a proud member of the St. Peter Volunteer Fire Department, serving 34 years, and attaining the rank of Chief, before retiring in 2010. He was very active in the community, serving as a member of many local groups and organizations. Windy enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also had a strong love for his animals. Most importantly, he cherished spending time with his family.
Windy is survived by his wife, Diane; sons: Travis (Suzanne), Justin, and Adam (Melissa); grandchildren: Parker, Grayson and Halle; brother, Winthro (Minda); sister, Euzetta (Simon) Williams; mother-in-law, Mary Jane Voss; Diane's siblings and their families; and other relatives and friends; his dog Bentley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Grant; infant brother, Garrett; father-in-law, Earl Voss; and brother-in-law, Gregg Voss.
